How to convert BMP to PNG

What to check in the source

A bitmap file may be inconvenient for the destination you need. Compare the actual converted file rather than assuming its extension tells you everything about its size or appearance. Review the PNG result

This tool uses browser image support. If the browser cannot encode the requested format, the result can fall back to PNG even when its filename has another extension. Check the actual file type before treating it as a valid conversion.

Inspect sharp edges, text, and any transparent areas. Saving another format as PNG does not recreate details that were missing from the source. Check the complete image at a normal viewing size as well as any area where small differences would matter. Keep the source and result together until you have confirmed that the converted copy meets your needs.

Does BMP to PNG improve the original image?

A file conversion changes representation. Do not expect it to recover missing detail, correct an out-of-focus photograph, or make every image suitable for every destination.
