How this conversion works
Decode the RGB pairs and interpret the final pair as alpha divided by 255. Treat RGB coordinates and opacity as separate parts of the conversion. RGBA output includes the RGB coordinates and an opacity component. Check that the returned alpha value matches the value you intend to use.

Understand the formats
CSS HEX Alpha adds an alpha pair after the red, green, and blue pairs: #RRGGBBAA. The final pair CC corresponds to an alpha value of 0.8. It is different from formats that place alpha first. RGBA adds opacity to red, green, and blue channels. An alpha value of 0 is fully transparent and 1 is fully opaque; the example uses 0.8.
Transparency and rounding
Both formats can express alpha. The example shows equivalent coordinates with opacity 0.8, but verify that the tool retains opacity in its actual output. Byte rounding can change an alpha value slightly when converting through hexadecimal.
Frequently asked questions
Will the converted color look identical everywhere?
Equivalent coordinates describe the same color within the assumed color model. Displays, color profiles, surrounding colors, and backgrounds can affect appearance. Compare the result in the application where you will use it.
Can I interchange HSL lightness and HSV value?
No. They are different calculations. Recalculate the destination coordinates instead of moving the same percentages between HSL and HSV fields.
