PNG to WEBP
Use PNG to WEBP to try a browser-based image conversion. Check the preview, quality setting, and actual output format before using the downloaded result.
PNG to WEBP for a different image workflow
Use PNG to WEBP when you have a screenshot, logo, interface graphic, or other PNG image and need a WebP copy for a destination that accepts WebP files. Convert a working copy first, then inspect the result in the application that will display or accept it. The right output depends on that destination, not simply on changing the filename.
How to convert PNG to WEBP
- Keep your original PNG image in a separate location.
- Select your source in Image and review the Quality value.
- Select Submit or review the preview after changing the image or quality.
- Save the generated result, then verify its actual file type.
- Open the result and compare it with the source before using it.
What to check in the source
Look closely at small text and transparent edges in your PNG source. A format change may affect how those areas appear in the final application. For a useful test, choose an image containing the details that matter in your real task, such as a logo edge, a caption, a photo highlight, or a transparent background.
Review the WEBP result
This tool uses browser image support. If the browser cannot encode the requested format, the result can fall back to PNG even when its filename has another extension. Check the actual file type before treating it as a valid conversion.
Test the downloaded file in your publishing or viewing application. Compare the actual size and appearance; a format name alone does not guarantee a particular saving. Check the complete image at a normal viewing size as well as any area where small differences would matter. Keep the source and result together until you have confirmed that the converted copy meets your needs.
Common questions
Does PNG to WEBP improve the original image?
A file conversion changes representation. Do not expect it to recover missing detail, correct an out-of-focus photograph, or make every image suitable for every destination.
Can I choose another output?
If your destination requires a different type, compare PNG to JPG, PNG to BMP, PNG to ICO. Choose the format the receiving application actually supports and review a sample before processing more images.
