Text separator for changing list delimiters

Use the Text separator to change how items in a list are divided. Turn separate lines into a space-separated sequence, or split a sequence into individual lines using the available delimiters. It helps prepare simple lists for documents, spreadsheets, forms, and other text tools without changing each separator by hand.

How to use the Text separator

  1. Paste your list into the Text field.
  2. Set Currently separated by to the delimiter used in the source.
  3. Choose the output delimiter under Separate by.
  4. Select Submit, review the Result, and use Copy to clipboard when it looks right.

For example, enter red, blue, and green on separate lines. With New line as the current separator and Space as the new separator, the result is red blue green. The menus also include semicolon, hyphen, vertical bar, and period options. Choose the option that matches the actual text rather than relying on its visual appearance.

Choose separators carefully

A separator can also be part of an item. Splitting on a period may divide domain names or decimal values; splitting on spaces may divide names containing several words. Keep a copy of your original list and test a short sample before processing a longer one. Review blank items, repeated delimiters, and spacing before importing the result elsewhere.

Common questions

Does this create a spreadsheet file?

The result is text. Copy it into your destination application and check that the application interprets the separator as intended.

Can I clean a list before separating it?

Yes. Use the Duplicate lines remover for repeated entries, the List alphabetizer to order lines, or the Character counter to inspect the length of your text. Apply each step deliberately and check the result before continuing.
